Reconnect With the Great Outdoors at Seneca Creek State Park

If one of your goals for this summer is to spend more time outside, look no further than Seneca Creek State Park for fresh air, gorgeous scenery, and plenty of history worth noting. With more than 50 miles of trails, you can enjoy Seneca Creek State Park by foot, bike, or even horseback. Check out the Clopper Lake Trail System, Schaeffer Farm Trail System, or one of the longer hiking, biking, or equestrian trails, including the Seneca Greenway, Seneca Ridge Trail, and Seneca Bluffs Trail. Be sure to print out a trail map before you go to keep yourself on the literal right path and know where you’ll find restrooms, playgrounds, and ADA accessible features.

Seneca Creek State Park also features an array of historic sites, like the Woodlands Estate, Black Rock Mill, and Waring Viaduct. Step back through time and learn about the Clopper family, the horticultural history of local peonies, and 19th-century milling along the self-guided path. Pick up a book on Montgomery County history before you head out and take some time to read in the park after your hike for even more historical knowledge.

Come to Seneca Creek State Park for the nature, the history, or just to spend some time outside—chances are, you’ll find yourself enthralled by all of the above.
